“New Era of Science Education” Needed

Secretary Arne Duncan speaks.

This morning Secretary Arne Duncan spoke at the National Association of Science Teachers in New Orleans. He said he aims to “launch a new era of science education in America.”

There are plenty of obstacles to improving science education, none of them new. What’s new is there’s now money for it. There’s over $100 billion in stimulus bill for education. Some of the money can be used for science labs and technology. It can also help provide additional pay for teachers in high-need subjects like science and math.

Great teachers are the key, and Arne wants to reward them. He is a big believer in differential pay. He wants teachers and principals who do a great job to be paid more.
