A Message from the Secretary of Education to ITT Students

Dear ITT student,

Today, ITT Educational Services, Inc. (ITT) announced that it is closing all of its ITT Technical Institute campuses. For most of the world, that news will be covered as a business story or a political one, but I know that for you it is deeply personal. You are probably wondering what this means for your future; how it is going to affect your finances and your ability to continue your education.

In recent years, ITT has increasingly been the subject of numerous state and federal investigations. In August, ITT’s accreditor, the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) determined that ITT “is not in compliance, and is unlikely to become in compliance with [ACICS] Accreditation Criteria.” This came amid increasingly heightened financial oversight measures put in place by the Department over the past two years due to significant concerns about ITT’s administrative capacity, organizational integrity, financial viability, and ability to serve students.

The school’s decisions have put its students and millions of dollars in taxpayer-funded federal student aid at risk. Last week, the Department of Education took oversight actions to prevent ITT from continuing to add to that risk. When we made that decision, we did not take it lightly. One possible outcome of oversight actions is that a school may choose to close rather than take corrective actions, which can cause disruption and disappointment for current students. Ultimately, we made a difficult choice to pursue additional oversight in order to protect you, other students, and taxpayers from potentially worse educational and financial damage in the future if ITT was allowed to continue operating without increased oversight and assurances to better serve students.

We are committed to helping you as you consider next steps. Most immediately, you have two basic options to choose between:

  1. If you are currently or were recently enrolled at ITT, you may be eligible to have your federal student loans for your program at ITT discharged. Your federal loan debt will be wiped away and you will have the option of restarting your education somewhere new. We will post and update information about how to receive a discharge at our ITT announcements page.
  2. If you wish to continue and complete your program at a different school – especially if you are close to graduating – you may be able to transfer your credits. It is important to note that transferring your credits may limit your ability to have your federal loans discharged. Closed school discharge may be an option if you enroll in a different program that does not accept your ITT credits.

Both of these options have pros and cons, depending on your unique circumstances, so it is important that you consider your specific situation carefully. You can find some information to start with at our ITT announcements page. The Department’s Office of Federal Student Aid is ready to support you with resources and information, including through this website, and will be updating you with more information in the coming days and weeks.

Whatever you choose to do, do not give up on your education. Higher education remains the clearest path to economic opportunity and security. Restarting or continuing your education at a high-quality, reputable institution may feel like a setback today, but odds are it will pay off in the long run. There are people and tools – like our College Scorecard – out there to help you pick a program that gives you a real shot at success.

I am proud of your hard work and dedication, and we will do all we can to continue to provide information to you on your options.

John B. King Jr., U.S. Secretary of Education

  1. I had one class left before graduating. (Capstone)

Option A: Wipeout my debt, get ZERO credit and be content that I wasted 21 months of my life.

Option B: Go through the rigorous process of contacting every technical school and hoping my credits transfer. After wasting all this time, I’ll then be able to pay back my students loans in full.

Before you gave ITT the death sentence, you should have had a better plan in place for the students.

Both these options are awful, get nothing back or get half back. I want everything I lost back, so do all the students involved.

None of us did anything wrong, we were trying to better ourselves. Now we are being knocked down for no reason.

Fix this mess, or let us sue.

  2. I had one more quarter to go before I could graduate from Itt tech Wichita. I knew something was going down when Lab images from school to do labs wasn’t working. Plus I drove a total of 6 hours a week to and from Itt tech now am I going to get a refund on gas? The answer is and always will be no. Why should I show up for school and only stay a hour 1:30 to 30 minutes for class then get sent home for “Labs” I understand we need follow the book when it comes to “Labs” or assignments. So why do we need to follow book when it comes to using Vmware player software? Virtualbox does the same thing and does not corrupt the images of virtual machines. Yet we had to use Vmware player and IT person wanted us to do all “Labs” there on the school’s crappy computers. I had a external Hard Drive I brought from home because the school didn’t give me one until 4 quarters in. Used a personal external HD to do “Labs” on because the school never gave me one up front. Then my external HD got weird permissions set upon it when you plugged it into the schools computer and corrupted the whole HD. I want my programming days back that teacher never show up to class for wishful thinking. I won’t be transferring my credits to another school and I won’t owe a dime to Itt-tech either student loan forgiveness here I come.

  3. This is terrible especially since I was 2 semesters away from completing my program. They provided a list of alternate school however most of them do not have the program i am in. Also ITT tapped out my financial aid and loans … So going to an alternate school is not an option. ITT gave me an “opportunity” scholarship that would have let me finish my schooling after they took all my money and now I have nothing to apply to another program with.

  4. I just finished my last quarter and is scheduled to graduate September 29 2016 does anybody know if that’s still in effect or how will I receive my degree

  5. This is unacceptable from both parties the DOE should’ve hired new staff and redeveloped the ITT atmosphere. Charged the guilty personnel for unlawfully changing financial books and fire them. This is not right by any means! Glad to have graduated but hope all degrees are grandfathered that finished prior to closure and more universities accept all credits from students impacted by these horrible decisions!

  6. my husband graduated in 2010 with an associates degree and does not use any of the things he learned from school in his job and he is overwhelmed with student loans! can he get those taken care of and what about what all he has already paid?

  7. Most of my loans are private. Although some are dept of education. I have been making payments since July of 2009. Treading water for 7 years and I can honestly say I think I owe more now then I did 7 years ago. I got robbed. A joke of an education to ruin my 20’s. I stress everyday over loans that will take me the rest of my life to pay back. Can I just quit paying on it now or will my credit become shot as well? Itt was the biggest mistake I could have ever made. I was taken advantage of. Somebody please help.

  8. What are former students that graduated that went to ITT suppose to do? are we getting any help? Because are debt so high u can’t even afford anything. That school lied to everyone and used them now were left with this debt. Everyone deserve help that went to this school.

  9. I graduated from ITT Tech online in April of 2015 with an associates degree in Criminology and Forensics Technology. Still trying to find a job in my field I lived in Tennessee at the time and I moved to Florida thinking maybe I could find a job but no luck there. I have student loans of 20k or more from this school. I need to know is my degree withstanding or not. Why should we have to pay all that money back.

  10. This situation is a double-edged sword. If you’re one of the people who ITT shut the doors on, either don’t transfer your credits to get your federal student loans waived, or accept the debt, transfer your credits and finish your degree. What a mess!

  11. I have contacted my congressman and wondered what you are going to do to help the veterans effected by this. We lost the most by your deci. The VA refused to reinstate our benefits and you have not offered us a comparable program and we lost all our pell grants.?

  12. My husband graduated in 2015 with an Associate’s degree in Drafting and Design. We have been paying $230.25 to ITT Tech on a private loan since September 2015, six months after he graduated. My husband is still in the same maintenance field he was in while he was in school because he could never get a job in drafting and design. When he enrolled they promised him he would find a job.

    • This is crazy, I’m about to start my last 2 classes until I get that same degree and yes I was promised help as well, never saw it. I don’t know whether to get my federal back like there saying or TRY to find a school that will accept these credits.

    • I just finished all my classes September 2016. I was suppose to get my diploma on the 9th. Now I don’t know what’s going to happen. I feel like I’ve waistedthe last 2 years of my life! The time I have tied up, money I owe, the sacrifices I’ve made to finish school! What can I do now?

    • I graduated from the same field as your husband back in 2007 not with honors but with a decent GPA 3.60 I think or 80 I don’t remember. And they promised me to help me look for a job. Almost 10 years later I’ve been on and off clerical jobs that have nothing to do with my field of study. Been working part-time jobs just to make enough to pay rent and other expenses without being able to pay off my loan.. I have really crappy credit because my loan is in default.. not once did they help me out like they promised! However, they did force me to get the loans to pay off school. Otherwise, I wouldn’t graduate they said. When I complained, all they told me was that my “advisor” was “let go” because he made false promises…

    • Liza my son lives in VA and got a job with MC Dean as a drafter. He went through a temp agency I think it was Aerotek. After 6 months he was hired permanently earning a good wage. Just want to pass on helpful information to your sitaution.

  13. This is unbelievable. I have read all of your comments, and am alarmed about the practices of ITT Tech. I was also set to graduate October 2nd, I just submitted my last assignment this pass Sunday. I had no intention on participating in graduation, and opted to have my degree mailed. My only question is will my degree be mailed? I have used all of my G.I. Bill benefits…I am at a loss for words. I hope all of you get the answers you deserve.

    • I’m in the exact same position as you. I also just finished and haven’t the slightest clue if I’m going to receive my diploma in the mail. Hopefully they do something for us Veterans who just used a good majority of our GI Bill. ITT National City still owes me two quarters of Pell Grants. Those crooks owe me $3,800.

  14. Should I stop paying my federal loan, I graduated June 2012 with a Bachelor in Information Technology , I still not able to use what I learned at ITT Tech.

  15. What about those previous students like myself that have DEBT from there, and will have to pay for a school thats not even open anymore. All of us had to get all these loans just attend there because they are expensive and they gave us all those loans

  16. Broke my back (literally) trying to make enough money to pay back my loans. After a back surgery, and two hernia surgeries, loads of med bills, I have finally crawled myself back to a decent debt load. ITT preyed on me as a young naive man. I did it though. Only $14,500 to pay off, raising two kids on one income with a wife. Had to rent out my house and move in with my parents. Embarrassing. ITT really screwed a whole generation of young people out of the prime time of their lives (their 20’s). Unnecessary hardship and debt enslavement they caused. And where did all the millions of dollars go? Are there some fat cats sitting on a golden throne somewhere laughing at all of us? ITT Tech executives should be thrown in jail, or sent to North Korea.

  17. My son-in-law completed his associate bachelor degree this summer. He
was looking forward to graduating on 09/07/2016, but has now been told there will not be a graduation held due to concern for student safety. They also told him there is no one to print diplomas, so he won’t be getting a diploma. I know the school was shutdown, but it seems like someone should have thought about the finalizing detailis for those who did complete their courses.

    • I’m in the same boat as your son. I just completed my degree and I won’t be getting my diploma

    • Wow I was wondering if they will be mailing us our diplomas instead. I feel ITT cheated me out of 2 yrs at this Institute and now I have nothing to show for. My dream of accepting my dilpoma and seeing how proud my family are off my accomplishements has been shattered. I believe that ITT Corp doesn’t care about us but are the ones that are funding their fat checks. This is totally unfair and if I wasn’t lured into ITT, I would’ve been better off at a different Institute.

  18. Hello,

I am an attorney for a legal services organization. We are trying to find an effective way to reach out to students affect by this issue (we can assist them with the discharge and or transition into a local institution).

Would the Department of Education be willing to suggest that those affect by this issue contact their local legal aid or legal services program, and post a directory of legal services programs?

    Thank you,

    • Hello, Is there any hope of debt forgiveness for prior graduates who are paying for past student loans? I graduated in 2010 from ITT and went back in 2014 – 2015 one class short of an MBA.

    • All of us who are so close to graduating are screwed. Places wont take our credits to transfer for Nursing. If they do take credits its only the pre requisites.

So if we transfer we will lose another year of our life plus we cant discharge our loans. So we will ve stuck with 45k debt to ITT plus another 35k to the new school plus another year.

18 months ive been in the nursing program only to have to start all over as well as my colleagues.

    • Hi Pedro,
I graduated in 2011. I work more than full time with four kids. My husband was in a very bad accident in 2008 and we lost our house and everything else. I kept going to school because I thought I could provide a better life with this great degree. No one in the field would hire me. I have had almost 30k garnished via my tax returns. Please advise me what to do. My husband and I considered bankruptcy as a last resort but as irony has it…we couldn’t afford to file. Thank you for your time.

    • I am a student that had 4 classes left to graduate with my associates degree and an RN license.. any help would be appreciated.

    • Hi Pedro Lopez,
I graduated in 2006, and I am still paying my student loan. They promised to find me a job on my field but as of today, they never found me anything. Can I get a student loan forgiveness?

    • Do let me know and all other students what to do. With a discharge of the loan only 120 days I’ve found out with be taken away. What gives???

    • A degree is no good if companies don’t recognize it. So with saying that do I have to pay this debt on a worthless degree

  19. I graduated from ITT Tech in 2009 with an associations in Multimedia and let me just say that the amount of student get I received from a 2 year school outweighs the amount I will have after my bachelors degree. I regret so much going to this school and if I knew more about it then I never would of attended. When I was attending ITT Tech the material they were teaching was already outdated and knew it and still taught it. Is there any way for student loan forgiveness to former graduates or some kind of relief of debt?

  20. I graduated back in 2010 from this “so called college”. The education was poor and outdated. I was duped in to many predatory lending tactics that I was told was required before I was able to graduate. Now that this school has closed “our degree” has absolutely NO MERRIT because the school no longer exists. So are we all just stuck paying back those insanely expensive loans!?

    • Steve, I feel the exact way you do my friend. I graduated in May of 2012 with a BS. I went completely on loans and still owe 6 figures! Something needs to be done

  21. I attended ITT Technical Institute1999-2001 in Webster, Texas and completed my degree in A.A.S. in Drafting and Design but did not receive my actual degree because of not passing the TASP Texas test. In this last 3years I have tried to get in contact with ITT to figure how to complete this exam and get my degree. I asked for my transcripts but had to pay a balanced I owed first($500). Not to mention I have been & still paying on my loans. What is going to happen TO THE RECORDS, who can assist me in getting my actual degree & discharging my loans if at all possible?

  22. I would like to know, what course of action is there for former students? I graduated ITT in 2013 with an Associates degree in Business Administration. I feel as though I’ve wasted 2 years of education, used up my G.I. Bill, and racked up about 30k in federal student loans. Since graduation, I wasn’t able to find a job in the field I studied in. Now that ITT is closing its doors, and accreditation has been a dramatic impact, I don’t know know if any reputable institution would accept what I have earned at ITT. With desire to further my educational goals, this is a big drawback, I ask for your best advice/couse of action and appreciate your support.

    • Hi Armando,

I work for a university and, at our school at least, if the institution was accredited when you took the classes, then it will not impact whether we accept the classes or not.

    • Hi Armando,
      My name is David.
I feel all that you’re going through. I too graduated in 2013. I took drafting & design. I racked up almost 55k. I talked to my fed loan adviser they said in a couple of weeks I & other graduates will receive a packet for us to decide what course of action we would be able to do. Give a call to your Fed & Private loan advisers to see what say. Good luck
      David Cook

  23. Sounds like a class action lawsuit needs to be started against ITT and the U. S. Dept. Of Education ( for allowing this sham to go on for as long as it did). I’m sure ITT has assets that can be confiscated by the government. Sounds like another Trump University scheme. Buyer beware.

    • I was attending ITT for nursing when it closed. I really hope for a class action suit. So many of us put in lost hours of hard work, time and energy, the emotional roller coasters with numerous quizzes and exams, the lost time with family/ friends and wages that could have been earned. This is more than just having loans forgiven. Not to mention, we were required to make separate quarterly payments to ITT directly. And had to order jackets with their logos on them out of pocket, for which we will never see because they had them ship to the school, which is now closed!

  24. Hi my name is Jose and I dropped out one year into itt tech. I still owe 9thousand. How can I get it lowered?

  25. What I don’t understand is why would the department of education even allow new student to even enroll within these two years with ITT Tech if this was going on. As a student I felt is was unprofessional of you and the school. Then all you can say is we want the best. What about our pain and suffering? This situation could have be handled better, those already in the program should have been able to finish. No one should have been robbed of their education because of the board of education and ITT’s unprofessional works. This is not fair to students and more needs to be done.

    • I agree! It is impossible for nursing students to pick up where we left off. It is impossible to even consider starting over. I am a mother of two girls, my husband took a job overseas to help me get thru college and only have to work part time. So what about us? The government and ITT should be responsible for making sure we get our education and finish in the time we were suppose to i was to graduate next year in June. Now it may be two or three years added to that if none of my credits will transfer. This is sad that we aren’t allowed to finish and succeed with our plans. It is really sad and unfortunate for us whom worked hard to get this far….

  26. My son just completed his program requirements August 20, 2016. We want to know if and when he will receive his degree???

    • Kristen I finished my program also on Aug. 20. I am so confused, hurt and disappointed and not knowing that I would be able to receive my degree after all my hardwork is really stressful! I am trying to get answers now. I feel that ITT really cheated us of our American Dream! All I wanted was a degree for me to have a better a chance in life and to support my family. I think everyone who is affected by this needs to write a letter to Congress and see if they really care to so anything for us lower class people who is trying to make a living in this world!

  27. I graduated from ITT with my Assoc. in 2002 and my Bach. in 2010 and it seemed as if their degree had no merit in the coporate world. Now, I am facing down loads of loans and degrees that aren’t worth the paper they are printed on. So, now what?? I sympathize with the current students being duped out of money, time and degrees, but what about those of us that have been left out on the limb with thousands of dollars in debt to a school that did little to nothing to assist with job placement? Are we left holding the bag? Or are we eligible for discharge/forgiveness???

  28. What does this mean for students who enrolled prior? I was a CEET student from 2009 – 2011 for my associates degree and all ITT in FL got me was debt. I had missed my final due to a leg injury at work. (A job I had to find myself out of the field). I was told that I would have to pay to retake the class again just to take the final. With unfortunate circumstances making me the financial head of my house hold I chose to withdraw as I couldn’t afford more debt. Upon stating so the Dean wished to see me and convince me to stay; all I got was chastised and looked down upon for choosing the “lowly life of a bartender over the great future here”, real convincing . Now I’m still the financial head of the household as the youngest AND on top of that I have to pay ITT and Navient for something that brought me and my family no benefit. Surely there would be some justice for those of similar circumstances? ITT set a lot of us up for failure; I can even recall my engineering professors “joking” how regardless of how we do they still get payed. At the very least being cleared of the current debt alone would save my family from the debt I brought upon them.

  29. Mr. King, What about all of the students that graduated and are in the field and capable on move up ladder, how is this going to affect their Associate or Bachelor Degree credibility coming from a closed school?

    • this is what im worried about? what are they going to say to me when i apply for a job and they look at my associates? is it even credible?

  30. David Borowski, I was close to graduating, I need a few more classes to finish. ITT School was a helpful and close to home. You actions are very disappointing to my self and former student studying hard close to home.

  31. Hi, I graduated in 2007 and have always struggled to pay back my ITT loans. Please help me with the steps that I need to take to get my hard earned money back. Thank you!

  32. Mr. King,

I am a former student of ITT Tech who never finished the Bachelor’s program, and yet they still continue to re package my financial aid while I was out of school racking up my student loan debt to about 50-60 thousand dollars. So in my situation who would I need to speak to on retrieving my transcripts, enrollment, and program information to have this debt forgiven?

  33. My son had one more quarter to be finish with an associate degree. This is so awful for this to happen. What will he need to do? How do we get transcripts? What schools will take the transferred credits? Who wants to start over when they are almost done?

  34. I’m concern I finished up at Itt in 2013 so in the future what do I do I’m in grad school now and have no clue on what to do with this degree

  35. I graduated in 2012 I want to know is my degree even any good or do I need to start from scratch. I was not able to find a job in my area of study but was able to find a job in a medical records room at a Va. All I want to know do I have to continue paying my student loans or are they null and void. I will go on record and say I didn’t learn a damn thing from ITT-Tech I thought it was just me but after reading other comments I realize it was ITT Tech

  36. What about Veterans with the Post 911 GI Bill. How will we be compensated for our loss? The VA says it can’t do anything for us. What are you going to do for us? Our credits from ITT are useless.

  37. What about previous students? I was attending ITT Tech during 2013 and was unable to finish my degree for Visual Communications. The program was closed down due to low enrollment and I was caught right in the middle with one more class to finish my degree. It was impossible to even get a degree in Visual Communications because it was a non existent program. I was unable to transfer my credits to another program which made it frustrating. Now i am stuck with no degree and over 40 thousands dollars of loans.

  38. I was a student a few years ago, however, I’m scheduled to start paying on federal loans in December of this year. Is there a way we can get those discharged or is it just for current students?

  39. Hi I graduated from ITT-Tech in 2011 with an associates degree in CNS/Computer science. I was told many time that I was going to be set up for job interviews through the school and that never happened, not even once, I was even told that it was going to be difficult to place me because I had no experience by one of the HR people. Also the campus I attended which is Wilmington MA had a sneaky practice of waiting for the quarter to start, then they would pull you aside and tell you, you couldn’t finish the quarter because you need to do another loan to cover that class period. I have Navient and Peaks loans with really high interest rates which I have been struggling to pay and like many others here feel that we were cheated and used just so that the school was able to get finance. To me this was a Ponzi scheme. What options do we have as far as having our loans discharged?

    • Ramon,
This could very well be my son’s story. They did exactly the same thing to him. He graduated valedictorian in his major, which was Visual Communications. We chose this school for him specifically because it was specialized training in the area he was interested, and they said they would help him with job placement when he was close to graduating. It’s pretty sad when even the valedictorian can’t get a job in the field. He found out some time later that any job in that field worth anything actually requires a bachelor degree.
Personally, I think there should be a class action law suit against ITT Tech from all the former students to not only get their student loans covered, but also the wages they could have earned while in school, and the difference between what they have earned and should have earned since graduating. But I have no idea how to even start such a thing.

  40. I have been a Software Development student at the Chattanooga Campus, and also an online student with the Indianapolis campus, I took the summer term off. I did just register and sign all my eforms last week, and applied for my financial aid as well. Will we be able to go to a new school now at a regular college campus while all of this is being handled, or do we have to wait until all of the loan discharges are complete?

    • You can transfer now if you like, you are just not going to be able to get a refund for the loans you have already accumulated. Or receive an closed school discharge.

  41. Us as the students really have our necks stuck out on this. We get a school discharge, which in English means they will take away all the loans so you can start over from scratch. Or you can transfer schools with the option of not getting a refund for the classes that will not transfer on top of paying for the news classes you will have to take. We are in win, lose situation. You have a choice start all the way over or finish college by adding more loans to loans that wont disappear. As a student who would have been in his last quarter this quarter this really really sucks. Visions are now cloudy, our futures will now be delayed. Nights of coming home exhausted after work, to do that homework assignment that will take you forever, projects that required you to do research and spend engineering thought out processes along with power-points, and references etc, countless of hours. Thrown out the window, “well not really i guess that was all practice to get ready for another college we will have to attend in the future when this school is shut down or closes itself”.

Itt was what you made of it for me I’ve done it twice once for my associates in Electronics and now for my bachelors EECT. Working 12 hr shifts go home take a nap if not do some homework stumble into class, sit in the front row taking notes, trying to keep a gpa above 3.0. Stay over if i was off that day do some research for this huge project i had to have done. Or making for for assignments i did bad on.

Bottom line this really sucks I can write you a list of things why us as students have been given the short end of the stick here.

Even the teachers i feel bad for but most of them had they Masters or Bachelors already. I am sure or i hope at least these guys will hit the ground running. for us its another two or four years will will have to go through to get out of the jobs that we already went to school for two years ago to get out of.

    • Very disheartening. I do feel you pain. I will add, the numbness if not really knowing what to do next. Not sure of how the credit transfers work. There should be some assistance for those who worked so hard and we’re so very close to graduation. I spent three years at this college and felt really good about it. Now there is a fear, so many other schools are on a list to possibly close soon as well. Do we wait this thing out, do we start spending $30 admin fees in an effort to find the school that best fits our scenarios. This is mentally draining and exhausting. I’m going to work daily and in the back of my mind I have this nagging thought and feeling of confusion; not really knowing what to do next. Very bad boat to be in. I’m so saddened for my classmates of over 3 years, for my instructors and the ITT Staff. We have all been damaged by what has taken place. I do hope there is a bright light at the end of it all. I was on the road to my Bachelor degree and darn proud about. What a unexpected ending to hard work, diligence and integrity.

  42. Hello,

My husband has been trying to get his transcript for a year with no help. They have wanted us to pay $600 to transfer his credits. He has not attended itt in almost 3 years so he does not remember logins to access the student portal. How can we get his transcripts so he can further his education?

    Thank you

  43. I am paying a whole paycheck every month on the loans that have been taken out by ITT Tech. I still owe over 90,000 dollars because of the interest rates and the amount to go to the school. The interest rate I was given by the financial aid team was at 11.5% and I had no other options for a better interest rate. I have been out of school since 2011 and I need help otherwise I will never be able to move out of my parents house unless i get that supposed 6 figure job the recruiters told me about after they convinced me to go back for my Bachelors. Don’t get me wrong though the teacher I had for most of my degree was amazing and taught me a lot but all the promises by the school just aren’t possible when I owe this much. Don’t forget the ones that graduated from the school already.

  44. I just can’t believe this! I just finished my last seminar in the Business Management Associates degree program. I’m suppose to graduate on September 29, 2016 and this happens not once but now twice with me and these for profit schools. I am devastated, I had enrolled in the B.A. program for Project Management, now what I’m supposed to do. I am over 40 years old and two years is a lot of time to invest and come out with no degree and a lot of debt.

    • I am in the same boat Felicia. I turned in my last assignment this past Sunday and am suppose to graduate September 24, 2016. I am 53 years old and work full time. It has especially been difficult this past quarter. I was forced to take all three of my courses (including capstone) online because of their being less than 5 students taking the classes. Their was no one on campus available whenever I needed assistance. I am heartbroken to have come weeks away from graduating only to be left with no degree and no desire to start over at a new school. ITT has been one disappointment after another but I put the blame on corporate. They obviously pull all the strings. The teachers and staff at the campuses really do care but they were just puppets being mislead.

      • My husband is suppose to graduate sep 29 for his Bat in cyber security. If there is no graduation is he getting his deploma sent to him. This is unfair.

      • So recent graduates will not get a degree? Where can I find out for sure? That is some BS. I am due to graduate September 24th…. finished my classes a couple of Sundays ago. I have been trying to call any ITT number I can find and no one is saying anything. Is there anyway to jump on the Healey lawsuit? Because if I don’t get it that is whats is going to happen. I came back to finish my Associates after a few years, and this could have been prevented had they kept it 100% with people coming in. And it sucks because even recruiters didn’t know about this.

  45. I would like to go back to school but ITT-TECH said they would not release my official transcripts due to a balance that I still cannot pay yet.

  46. As an ITT grad I am disgusted with this whole thing. Four years of my life a thousands upon thousands of dollars in student loans wasted. Can someone please point me in the right direction to have these discharged. They have ruined my credit and I m now working in a factory just to pay my bills. I can not and will not pay them a dime. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

  47. Hi, I graduated in 2007 and have always struggled to pay back my ITT loans. Now I am left with a degree that I have worked so hard for that means nothing at all. Please help me with the steps that I need to take to get my hard earned money back. Thank you!

  48. I graduated from ITT in Portland Oregon, in 1990 with an associates degree in Electronics. I have never been able to find a job in the career field. I unfortunately, could not afford to pay the student loans. At the time I had applied for ITT they had an advertisement that stated that there was a guarantee I would find a job or my money back. At the time I graduated, Electronics had been a male dominate field of work, and I knew that. On the other hand the career counselor at the time, had told me its changing and that companies would want me. Well that never happened in my time. I had eventually found a job at a local grocery store some many years later, but then the Department of loans and services, started garnishing my wages and has done so since 2008. I don’t make a lot money as I made minimum wage to begin with and it has been a strain. It was the only job I could find at my age. Even now as I look for job openings for the electronics field, the companies do not want me for many different reasons including my age. As the years past since I had graduated I had hoped to find a job in the field as I watched many people get a job in the field. I stayed in limbo waiting for the Electronics field to take a chance with me. Technology is changing and I wanted to be a part of that. But now I feel spending all that time and money has been a waste. It was not worth it for myself or people in that same situation as me. I regret going for a degree in electronics and wish I could go back to college now for a better degree, but I can’t because of all that money I have had to pay back. I can’t get a better paying job because of the student loans. It has prevented me from many opportunities, many companies and managers try to shy away from giving me any chance to prove myself. I still have a few more years of garnishment and my taxes being taken away from me. I work hard every day to provide for myself, my taxes that I have not seen for many years could have helped me in many situations. My husband died in 2015 who had student loans, he was in the process of paying off the loans before he got ill. I understand that I could be responsible for paying off his student loans also. I have lived in many states and looked for jobs in those states but could never find one. Many of the places wanted someone with a Bachelors degree or higher. I could not afford to go any higher then an Associates degree. I was still determined to find a job in my degree field. Through many years of paying off my student loans it has prevented me from being able to do many things including buying a house, buying a car, and even providing for my children and their health. I do not advise these young people to go to a local for profit college. I understand people go to college to get a decent career, some don’t. In my case I feel like I had no chance at all. There is something I have to ask, What about those people who graduated many years ago and are still stuck with their loans? What are we supposed to do? Are we going to be neglected again? I need closure, especially with ITT being investigated. Thank you for making me feel like someone was actually listening and hearing my cry.

    • According to the U.S. Department of Education, if the borrower of a federal student loan dies, the loan is automatically canceled and the debt is discharged by the government.

His student loans died with him. You should not be responsible for them
